1976, 1996, 2006.
To understand what Ristorante Vento Ariel is today, you must come back in time and follow the history of a family, the Groppi family, who in 1976 moved from Turin to Camogli.
The allure of the sea, as they say, can be incredibly strong.
Head of the family, Elio Groppi, and his wife Cristina, arrived in Camogli with their two children, Davide (6 years old) and Ombretta (3 years old), and began managing various establishments in the splendid village of Golfo Paradiso before taking over the renowned Gatto Nero restaurant at Piazza Colombo 32.
In 1996, a pivotal moment occurred: Davide, now grown and passionate about the trade, took over the management of Gatto Nero, which he transformed into Porto Prego.
Meanwhile, his father Elio embarked on a new adventure as the new owner of Ristorante Vento Ariel, located on Calata Porto, overlooking the harbor of Camogli.
For a decade, Davide with his Porto Prego and Elio at the helm of Ristorante Vento Ariel engaged in a kind of family competition, so to speak.
Then, in February 2006, Davide Groppi left Porto Prego to devote all his energies to Ristorante Vento Ariel, infusing a touch of youthful and knowledgeable innovation into the already simply refined recipes of his father Elio and mother Cristina.
But the story of Vento Ariel continues: in 2018, when he was 16, Edoardo, Davide’s son, began getting involved in the restaurant by helping his father. Once he turned 18, Edoardo started working seasonally while still studying. After graduating, he began working permanently in the dining room, and his language studies have helped him communicate easily with guests from all over the world. A wine enthusiast as well, he is always happy to recommend the perfect pairing.
